I recently moved to Phoenix and I was wondering what people use as a good local events calendar.

After many internet searches on how to make friends/meet people in a new city, the consensus seems to be to "get out there." Easier said than done, especially when you're introverted like me. I think things might be easier if I had a detailed list of events and activities going on each day in the valley.

From a concert in Tempe to a local high school science fair, the more variety and detail the better. I find entertainment/educational value in all things hip or offbeat.

I live in the arcadia neighborhood if that helps any.

Also, any other tips on how to make friends in a new city would be really appreciated, especially from people who have experienced it firsthand. What did you specifically do?

I use Twitter and the events calendar on Arizona Local News - Phoenix Arizona News - Phoenix Breaking News - azcentral.com. A lot of local businesses use Twitter to advertise specials...events...activities...etc.

What sort of things do you like to do?

take a look at meetup.com if you don't already know about it.....take a while to explore it and find local groups that interest you...you'll have to register and all that.....very well-known internet thing....

think about volunteering.....

the Calendar insert/section in the Thursday Republic has a lot of stuff (similar to Bungle's idea)....

look at the free New Times arts weekly....available all over

there probably is not one place that lists absolutely everything
