Anybody else having a ton of ticks on their property?
I think I saw 3 on the dog last year. Now I can't get rid of them.
Very sensitive to chemicals (pesticides, in particular) and am trying diatamaceous earth and other things, but they're still around. Just had the rest of my old wooden fence removed. I heard they're attracted to that, so now mine's all block.

We've not seen a flea or tick on our dog since moving here in 2008. Very nice surprise as we had to keep our dog treated all year long when we lived in Oregon.

be careful about 10 years ago my dogs got tick fever and almost died. The neighbors dog was an outside dog and they came over from that yard. You still need to be careful it was an expensive lesson.

I use cedar oil on my dogs if I see ticks. if you place one drop on top of the tick, it will suffocate the tick and you can then easily remove it. Then either buy dog shampoo with cedar oil in it, or use your regular shampoo and add drops of cedar oil to both the shampoo and any conditioner. You can also put 2-3 drops of cedar into a carrier oil like almond or apricot and then rub it all over your dog's fur. Don't make it too strong, as some of the smaller dogs can't handle the intensity of the smell. Dogs have greater sense of smell than we do... a little goes a long way. My dogs actually like it. You can get cedar oil in a health food store like Sprouts or whole foods. You may also be able to find some natural products for your dogs there that will contain it.

As for the yard, I've also put about 20 drops of cedar oil in a spray bottle with warm water. Shake it really good and then spray along the walls and fences where the ticks might be hiding. You can use it in the house as well. EPA has declared cedar to be safe for humans. But like all things, don't over do it. A little is good. A lot can overwhelm you and your pets.

You may also want to check into cedar chips for areas near the house. Cedar keeps other crawlies away as well.

I don't know anything about this particular company - CedarOil - but there's some good food for thought on the site.
