Help! I put the lights on all the bushes a couple days ago in preparation for Christmas. I think we have had 2 inches of rain and its still coming. Is there any danger with these lights? Should I take them all off? This is unbelievable weather for the Phoenix area where it hardly ever rains. My back yard is flooded.

They'll be fine. Just unplug them from your power outlet, and let them dry a day or two before you plug back in.

Most outdoor lights are reasonably water resistant. Unless they are in standing water, like spread along the ground to make a "stream" or something, I would leave them alone. They will dry out. Even if we do not get weather like this often other places do so the lights are up to it. Extension cords will get water in the receptacle slots, too. I put a plastic bag around those parts when I set things up. Well I used to, now I mostly say to heck with it and just leave the lights off when it rains. They work again in a day or two.

If you have outdoor rated lights (most are rated as Indoor/Outdoor in any event) you're ok. As mentioned just unplug them from the outlet for now and let them dry out for a day or so. Or not. Mine will be on during snow and rain here in MD with no ill effects.

Yeah well I am having a total hip replacement tomorrow so I had no choice. Do it now or don't do it at all.

Asked an electrician the same question a few years ago. Said to unplug from the house and let them dry for a day or two. Plus do not wrap the connections with plastic wrap or plastic bags like some people do, the cords never dry out if you do that. Plus if it's sunny the plastic collects condensation.

We don't get a whole lot of rain throughout much of the year but it's kind of normal to have these steady soaker rains in the wintertime that last a few days.

What's unusual is how early this is starting.

In most years the winter rain season here begins sometime around Christmas and ends around March, November is usually a dry month.

Don't fret about Christmas lights, they were designed to withstand stormy weather.

Look at photos from other parts of the country, lights and decorations are out in the snow and frozen in ice but nobody worries.

Relax, enjoy the fruits of your labor and be thankful for the rain, we certainly need it.

Hey, PhxBarb . . . you may want to consider little Life Jackets for each bulb.

By the way . . . GOOD LUCK tomorrow and do what the doctors tell you.
