We had 3 big bags of clothing and a couple furniture pieces that we wanted to give to Goodwill...setup an appointment to have Goodwill stop by to pick them up today, left them on the sidewalk with a sign that said "Goodwill" on it early this morning. Went to the gym earlier today, came back, and everything was gone...so I figured Goodwill had stopped by.

A big Goodwill truck just pulled up to get the stuff. I felt so bad for them, driving all the way out and the stuff was taken by someone else.

Sad to hear that people would do that.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully it was either another charity on their route thinking it was left for them, or bulk trash pickup, and not some people who think anything left on the curb is free for the taking. That said, there are parts of the Valley where it is customary to put your unwanted stuff on the curb for anyone to take it off your hands. Hopefully what those people don't want out of it will end up in needy hands, and not in a trash heap.

Sorry to hear that this happens around the Valley. We have had curbside donation theft twice.

Considering that we live on a cul-de-sac in a neighborhood with private streets and a single access - either the UPS man is hard-up or the neighbors are scavenger rats. Twice.

Unless we have a donation requiring a truck - we routinely drop-off small loads as they accumulate.

I've had my bulk pickup items (trash) taken more times than I can count. I don't know what the heck someone wants with my trash but it disappears shortly after I put it out.

I wouldn't even consider putting anything of use out there for Goodwill as I wouldn't get back in the house before it was gone.

One time I carried an old patio table from the backyard to the curb for bulk pickup, I turned around and went in the back yard to grab the chairs and when I got back to the front yard (less than a minute) the table was already gone and there were no cars driving down the road. I'm still baffled how it was taken that quickly.

I've had items from my bulk trash picked up too and I am even in a gated community. Fortunately, I saw from my living room window it was some landscapers in the area. That didn't bother me so much, but on a different occasion, some landscaper decided to dump several huge pieces of a palo verde tree stump off at my house with the rest of my bulk trash.

That's really too bad, I had many things taken from my car port, I had a storage shed at the end of it and I was cleaning it out so there was a lot of stuff outside in the car port. I had to leave to go to the store, I came back and some of my items were stolen...some people I tell you.

After a number of incidents, we finally installed surveillance cameras around our house & yard.

Best money we've spent in years.

There's a lot of people that assume anything put out on the curb is basically a free-for-all. Around bulk pick up time I notice them, they'll roll around the neighborhoods, even into the cul-de-sac where I live and just creep through slowly, looking for stuff to take. I always figured that they're pretty hard up anyways, so it wasn't really a big deal to me, but the best way to handle donations is to drop them off yourself at the facility.
