Amazon is advertising part time positions to deliver products, called "Flex." I'd like to find out where the main locations are to pick up packages before I apply. I found 3 main Amazon warehouses, but they are far from where I live, south west of downtown. But maybe people pick up packages at other locations? I've been searching, but I haven't figured this out yet. Any ideas? Thx in advance....

About the only information available is at flex.amazon.com.

An article in Reuters says this:

Amazon Flex works like on-demand ride-hailing service Uber. Drivers use the app to sign up for shifts to pick up packages at small warehouses near metropolitan areas - as opposed to Amazon's massive fulfillment centers - and deliver them to customers' doors.

Here's something about Flex I did not know:

In order to qualify, Amazon said drivers must have a four-door car that is a "mid-sized sedan or larger"

I have a Sprinter van, which technically has 3 doors if you don't count the ones in the rear. Wonder if that would count. LOL.

A word of advice if you do this. You will need to tell your insurance company that you use your car for business purposes, and your rate will go up.

My car is classified for business purposes and the insurance difference was maybe $20-30 for the year. It wasn't very much at all. It is important to note to get that changed over on your policy but it's not a massive difference for the payment over the year.

Sounds neat. But the first thing I wonder though, will there be glut of drivers waiting all day for pickups? That reminds me of my old cab driving days in Tampa FL, you'd be waiting for hours in queue with the other drivers. And that was a "regulated" industry.

But Uber and this Amazon thing, with no limits on the amount of contractors, you'd be competing with the hordes of other delivery drivers.

Dang it, it does sound good though. I wouldn't have to work a typical job.

Sounds like drivers for the "Prime Now" service. Prime users can log on and order certain things, mostly household products and groceries, but electronics and tons of other things are included in this service, and it's guaranteed to be delivered in 2 hours. I've used it before and it's pretty handy. When it totals it up, it does recommend and automatically include (though you can change it) a 10% tip, so that's nice for the drivers. I do hope that is not their entire salary, though.

You can change the tip up to 48 hours after the order. Since I ordered like 6 cases of pop and live on the second floor, when the guy delivered timely, with a big smile, I upped his tip for having to lug all that stuff and still being super friendly. So, for those who do this, remember, service with a smile can be rewarding!

Just happened to read this the other day - good article on FLEX and as it compare to other on demand driving services:

Amazon Flex Review: More Freedom And Flexibility Than Rideshare

If I remember correctly (I did not re-read it) - it says they limit the number of drivers - so there isn't a big glut...

That's not bad. I'm still used to the northeast where the rate will go up hundreds.

And to the guy who said "wink wink", its not worth the risk.

I appreciate all the info... I'm still not sure whether to apply. I've seen a lot of posts where people either didn't hear back after applying, or they didn't get any jobs. Also, if I knew exactly where the pickup locations were, I might consider it, but I haven't found that information yet. And I've also driven a cab, years ago, and hopefully this sounds better!
