Anyone have an above ground pool? Something in the size range of 15' x 8' x 4' (~6,000 gallon) or larger? What are your thoughts about an above ground pool -- including: costs, maintenance, initial assembly, non-permanence factor, etc.

IMO, they would look ugly in a small back yard. My girlfriend's grandparents have one in IL but their backyard is about 2 acres, it looks nice, they even built a deck for it.

my aunt out here has one, but once again her yard is pretty good sized and they also built up a half deck for it and then did some hedges in front of it as well

i've never had any problems swimming in it............

There is no thermal mass to draw away heat. The water will get up around 100 degrees in one. I have an above-ground spa and it gets too hot to turn on (the safety switch trips) most days from now until September. You might be able to put sprayers on it or something to achieve some evaporative cooling.
