Long story short, I've had a bunch of negative things happen in the last few months here on the east coast and I need a change. I've always wanted to move out west, specifically San Diego or Phoenix. PHX is obviously a lot cheaper, so that makes the most sense right now.

I would be moving without a job. Can anyone suggest places to look that don't need proof of income to rent? I have great credit and references. I would be looking for a studio or 1 bedroom and I have a dog. Not too picky on location, as it would be a temporary place until I find something permanent. Ideally, I'd be looking to stay around $1,000/month.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm on my way to Phoenix and in the apartment hunting I did earlier this month i found that very, very few apts offer anything shorter than a 6 month lease. And most of the ones I looked at required proof of income, even the ghetto ones.

With that in mind, I would get an extended place that allows dog and secure a job before your apartment. This way you get to know the area and can get a place near where you work. Phoenix is very, very spread out.

You could also check out Airbnb. Maybe someone has something for an extended stay at a reasonable price. I'm not sure Or do an extended stay hotel or residence inn. Honestly it will be very hard to find a place without a job. What kind of job will you be looking for?

Have you considered a roommate situation? Craigslist has lots of listings for roommates wanted. Not ideal, but if you're lucky to find a good person, would be OK IMO.

cuse, I understand what needing a change feels like. Sometimes a change of environment can make all the difference. I recommend an extended stay that allows dogs or possibly and airbnb as well. Most apartments and landlords will require proof of income. Now, if you can come and plop down a few months rent in advance that may also help your cause as most places move on green! Good luck and let us know when you arrive.
