So here's the deal guys. My wife and I moved to AZ from Lancaster county Pennsylvania back in 2001. We were there for over 5 years and really loved living there. We still maintain friendships with quite a few people there (we lived in Gilbert).

We moved to Colorado in 2006 basically for a job and to try something different. We enjoyed it but decided to move back to PA a few months ago. We have a 10-month old daughter and lots of family here, that was a big part of the decision to come back. That part has been great, but now 5 months in I am vividly remembering all the reasons I wanted to move away from here.

The company I worked for in Colorado allowed me to set up a remote office out of my home here in PA. That was great up until 2 weeks ago when I got a call that their business loan did not go through and they were shutting the doors. Boom, lost my job and about $10k the company owed me. My wife stays home with the baby so far so all the sudden we have no income. Luckily, we have some savings and an emergency fund to get us by.

Here's the rub- I have been considering starting a business for a few years now. After having the rug pulled out from under me at this last job, I'm determined to do it. Phoenix is about 1000x better market for the types of businesses I'm considering. This is a very small pond of like-minded people (not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just quite limiting.)

On top of that, I miss the desert and living in Phoenix terribly and I know my wife misses it too. She however, is not going to be keen on moving away from family again and I don't want to pull the rug out from under her.

Wow, I did not intend for this to be so long. I'm looking for subtle ways to convince her that moving back to AZ is the right move for us. The business thing is one part, the housing prices are another. Even rental homes can be had quite affordably, even better than here. We had to settle for renting a (very nice) town home here to get the rent we wanted.

Soo....any ideas?

A little follow-up...

I broke down and decided to talk to my wife about all this. Turns out she has a lot of the same feelings of discontent here. Sounds like we will be heading home to AZ wither next spring or maybe even this fall. All depends on jobs and if we can get out of our lease here.

congrats and good luck with your job hunt! My wife has started hitting the big job sites to look for work. Although I'm transferring with my company, it sure makes life easier in our society these days to have an extra income. Winter would be a great time to move to AZ!

I'm with you on that but we have a 10-month old and I would like my wife to continue to stay home with her if possible. It will be a little tighter with just one income but with housing as cheap as it is, I think we can make it work. Good luck with your move too, I'm jealous!
