You may or may not be familiar with the landscape photographer Peter Lik. But since the Weather Channel doesn't actually show the weather anymore, you may be interested in the new series he has coming out on that channel called "From the Edge with Peter Lik". If you still actually watch the Weather Channel you've no doubt heard of it because they're promoting this show every 6 minutes like it's the second coming.

Each week will showcase a 30 minute episode of some extreme condition he goes into to get "the money shot" for that location, plus provide perhaps some useful tips for those doing the same type of thing.

I've followed this guy's work some in the past. He actually is a very good landscape photographer, but he's a little "hokey" (at least to me) and seems to play up on the Crocodile Dundee thing a lot. I don't think he actually owns a shirt that has sleeves. . I know a women who's from Australia and she's very familiar with his stuff, and she laughs at him, because at least according to her, he over-emphasizes his accent and self-hypes a good bit. Apparently his galleries actually closed shop in Australia due to lack of sales, but they do very well here in the States, and she said it's because he's very intelligent and has learned to play "our" game with three things VERY well: Looks, Marketing, and our fascination with anything Australian. In her words, "he's learned the milk the American cow, so bravo to him". LOL.

I watched some sample clips from his show. I'm not sure I'll be able to handle his Dundee stuff for long but I can probably make it for 30 minutes at a time. He is again, a very good photographer underneath the Croc Hunter bit, and there' stuff to learn from him.

I have admired his ability to market his work and himself. Alot of photographers knock him for his presentation and self-promotion. But he is a solid photographer and extraordinary businessman.

I don't get the Weather Channel. I hope they make the videos available online.

May DVR it: great invention for viewing the ~5-15" of any half hour program, minus ads and filler.

Yeah, the Weather Channel is showing more and more stuff that really has nothing to do with actual Weather these days. I guess in the world of apps and online sites people can just get the weather when they want and honestly, there really isn't a need for a dedicated weather "channel" on TV/Satellite anymore, so they're grasping at the straws trying to stay afloat as long as possible.

I don't knock Lik for his marketing and business sense. I just think he's kind of corny. If Crocodile Dundee and Steve Irwin had a love child together, then most likely Lik would be it. LOL. I envy anyone who's willing to stand next to an erupting volcano to take a great shot - I lose interest if 15 minutes of the program is them climbing up the side going, "At any moment, we could dieeeeeeeee", though. And a couple of the clips I've seen of the show seem to indicate it might lean a little this way. But we'll see when the series starts.
