I only saw this on my account today when I was posting a collection of pictures here. Apparently, it's to "simplify and unify the mobile and web Flickr experiences" (according to the article, and Flickr themselves).
I don't see this doing anything but harm. I despise the new interface. It seems to antagonize web users and has driven me nuts already. For example, upon first impression it is absolutely incompatible with tabbed browsing. It's not 1984 any more, multi-tasking and tabbed browsing have totally improved the computer experience.
Plus, wasn't a unity of interfaces one of the goals of Microsoft in creating Windows 8? Look how that went!
It seems like Flickr users, being primarily digital photography fans (and some film ones as well), are a bit more well-versed in technology than your average Joe. They can figure out the differences between desktop/laptop usage (much more powerful) and tablet/phone/smartwatch usage (less capable).
and I'm starting to regret paying into my pro account.
