I drove up from Anchorage to Fairbanks today and saw a lonely Caribou on the side of the road.

This was outside of Denali Park...

He lost a antler

Excellent shots, Warptman!! How rare to see an animal like this exhibiting no fear and almost charging you.

GREAT job on the exposures. I see from the exif data that you used +2/3 EC which was just right for this situation. ISO 400 and 1/250th was a gamble that paid off. You were right on the edge of getting motion blur in that first shot. There is a bit of motion blur in the antlers, but it's not objectionable. In that light, and with that camera, I'd consider using ISO800 to get your speed up and give you some leeway to freeze any unexpected rapid motion. F9 was a good call because you were in pretty close and it kept the entire animal in focus. Speaking of focus, great job of locking it on the animal against those trees. The AF soooo often wants to lock on the trees themselves because they provide a nice contrasty target.

I'm so proud of you! Keep 'em coming.

Nice job warptman on the exposure. Snow is difficult to capture esp. with a dark subject. The third picture is Christmas card material!
