Hi there, my wife, son (to be born next month) and I plan to relocate to Pittsburgh next summer. Just wonder if you could recommend a neighborhood with decent public school and reasonable house price (around $200K). By the way, my wife is a social worker and I'm a mechanical engineer. Thanks.

for city living - Greenfield, Squirrel Hill, Brookline.
for inner "suburbs" - Ross Township, Crafton Borough

congratulations on your soon becoming a dad!
and on the eventual move to pittsburgh.

i am assuming that you will be looking for work...or, will you be relocated by your current employer?

Dear szug-bot,
Ross Township looks like an ideal place to raise a family. I will be looking for a job and my wife might work for VA. Thanks.

Since your wife is working at the VA, I would look in Aspinwall which is very close to the VA in Fox Chapel and the one on Highland Drive and is fairly close to the one in Oakland. Aspinwall has great schools (Fox Chapel Area School District) and is a sidewalk neighborhood with a few restaurants and stores, and it is less than a mile to a large strip mall. However, it really isn't suburban living. If you want a typical suburban house then it isn't for you because the yards are pretty small and the houses are close together.
