What's the story with 1036 South Braddock? That face has been out there for at least 18 years, and is very unique and a bit freaky.

Glad someone thought to ask this question of the Pittsburgh experts on City-Data Forum. I have always been curious about the Dionysius building too! Was the "decoration" possibly a fountain at one point?

I hope someone is able to answer your question. Inquiring minds want to know!

It was indeed a working fountain, and was restored back into working order at one point, but I haven't noticed it being on in years.

It's been there for as long as I can remember, at least 25-30 years.

ETA: If my memory is correct, I saw "Raiders of the Lost Ark" at the Regent Square Theater in 1981, and I believe the fountain was there then, so I'd say it's been there for at least 30 years.

I'd show up for the party where it flowed again... with wine! I always wondered about it each time I passed it.

I was reading some of the replies to the thread on the above link and was interesting to hear that building was runored to be a bordello, lol.

They also mentioned the Heidelburg building down the street. That is a neat looking building that has mushrooms carved out on the side. I always wondered about that (hidden meaning?)

As much fun as it would be if that story was true, and as much as Regt Sq desperately needs a proper cat house, it would be devious indeed to hide one behind a giant leering Bacchus mask.
