May I make a suggestion? Millvale would be cool, you have Mr. Smalls.

But I didn't know Fox Chapel was declining.

Even though I don't live in Pittsburgh, I really enjoy the threads about your home and your urban pioneering adventure. Congratulations on your anniversary AND happy birthday!

AA, if you do decide to make this an annual thread, I hope you go back to a few sites from your first photo tour and shoot a few buildings from the same angle year after year. Pick some attractive sites and maybe some unattractive sites too (because wouldn't it be great to look back over a ten year span and see how a once ugly spot improved over the years).

The friendliest people I've met in Pittsburgh have been the old-timers who have lived here for generations, and I think it's offensive when people cite the large number of older people as a barrier to progress in the city. They built the city! Most I have met love the fact that I am seeing the opportunities of living and fixing up a house in their neighborhood, which is something they did when they were my age. I'm gay and I don't hide it, and I have had absolutely ZERO flack from anyone in McKees Rocks.

Great idea! I can't wait until the Fifth Avenue School is finished and I can do a before and after shot (I photographed it fall of last year, before renovations began).

I would love to actually see just how "retro" the interior of your rowhome is sometime. You have exterior photos of your home posted on your Facebook profile, but some more interior ones would be most excellent as well!

I drove through Hazelwood the other day and was absolutely amazed. You can clearly see based on the architecture that there was wealth in that neighborhood at one time. There are some grand old tree-lined streets with amazing potential.

wpipkins said the home I was interested in (on aptly-named "Pauley" Avenue) was sold not long ago, but it has still been listed online as for sale. I'm hoping it will still be available in the Spring, as I'll buy it then if it is.
