Hello all. Its been quite some time since I visited this forum but it came to mind when our son informed us that he is moving from Bellevue to Schenley Park. Its going to be a lot closer to his job in the city.
Anyway, I'm very curious what the current day opinions are of the Village In The Park in Schenley Park.
Good ? Bad ? Safe place to be ?
Any and all opinions are most welcome
thanx !!

There is an apartment community off Perrysville Avenue in, hm, what neighborhood is that? Perry North? The address is 3001 Marshall Road. I can find reviews but not a website, so I don't know who manages it.
It is *not* in Schenley Park. It's close to Riverview Park though.

That makes sense, I live near Schenley park and couldn't imagine where they were talking about.

There are some apartments we looked at once that are tucked in the woods along the border of Riverview park, it has to be what they are talking about. They looked really nice, can't imagine them not being safe in that area, but I do remember the parking looking like it was tight, which I'm really anal about.

Yes, this is it. It does look as though it is tucked into a wooded area and yes, while I thought parking shouldnt be a problem, apparently it is somewhat tight. I hope its not too much of a problem ( they have 2 cars)
This is the place though. I guess we'll get to see it firsthand in a couple of weeks. I thought that it was a part of Schenley but thats not the place.
I understand it to be quick to downtown from there but I dont know how much traffic plays into that either.
Thanks for the input so far and any more is appreciated.

Its a little bit closer to drive into Pittsburgh from there, but not that much compared to Bellevue which is also easy.

Its an easy drive down Marshall to 65 and across the Ft. Duquesne into town almost any time. Driving down Perrysville and Federal St. isn't too difficult either.

I've driven past it a few times and it looked nice. Not sure of the quality of tenants there.

That section of Obs Hill has definitely improved in the past decade.

Hi,
I actually lived in the Village in the Park for about 7 years before recently relocating to San Antonio & would love to move back at my first chance! I personally loved it there. The 2 BR apartments are nice (about 1000 sq. feet). They've recently been remodeling them as tenants move out.

What I loved best about them was the location & setting! You feel like you're in a tree house, with the tall tree canopy. There are numerous trails that lead directly into Riverview park. I spent many evenings after work on a 2-3 hour stroll. You're only 10 minutes from downtown or to McKnight Road & shopping. 5 minutes to I279. Go to events downtown? Such an easy commute home up Marshall Road, 65 access roads, or numerous other city roads.

The community itself is safe, there's no crime or vandalism in the complex. The parking can be a little tight at times, but there is always parking for every tenant somewhere in the lot. The neighbors can be hit or miss. No one is bad per say, but since they are dog friendly you might have a neighbor with barking dogs.

One thing I would caution is to make sure you ask the landlord, Tom, about who your neighbors are and what the history of the maintenance of the apartment has been. They were built in the 70's and the previous owners didn't take tremendous care of them, so some of the places may have/ need minor repairs. Each unit is hit or miss, but I heard stories that might have chased me away. Didn't have issues in my unit though.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

FYI, Village in the Park used to have a shady reputation, group homes, assisted living etc. Not sure about it nowadays, do some research.

Well the reviews we're seeing seem to be far more positive than negative which is kind of rare. Usually when people take to the keyboard, its because they're mad about something
Thanks for the input folks !
Misfits00 - thanks, if we have any questions we'll get at ya !
