We are considering relocating from Florida to Pgh. Cost of living here is crazy and I do desire to someday own a home. Hubby and I are both Respiratory Therapists, anyone know how the market is for RT's there? We also have kiddos, where would we want to live that nice but not too pricey, yet safe with decent schools? Another thing, do they provide bus service for the kids there? In FL there is a law that if you live within 2 miles of the school no bus, we're 1.96 miles and off a busy road with no sidewalks and my kids are 1st and 3rd grade. I hate it! Oh and how do ya'll take to southern folks? I'm actually from WV, just moved around alot since adulthood. I know it'll be different there than I'm used to, the move to St Louis was major culture shock! I want to be prepared!

I imagine pretty strong. Pittsburgh's largest industry, if you will, is health care and technologies associated with health care. I've worked for both the leading health care systems in Pittsburgh, West Penn Allegheny Health System, and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and both have very extensive respiratory departments from what I observed. You might want to contact a local company called Respironics. They are growing pretty fast and might be what you're looking for! Here is their website: Respironics

Do you practice out of a hospital?

You will definitely have to be more specific. LOL. There are tons and tons of areas like this!! Do you want to be very close to downtown Pittsburgh? Do you want somewhat of a more rural feel? Do you want a large yard or would you prefer a town house? Etc.

I'm only aware of one school district in the greater Pittsburgh area that does not provide bus service. Unfortunately, it's a good one!

I'm not sure I get your question. I think you'll be fine in terms of acceptance if that's what you mean. :P

You are far from the only one.

Thanks! I have no clue about anything there so moving with kids makes it hard to do temporary housing and I hate to put them in a school only to move them in a few months. I want somewhere convenient, not in downtown but close to like a Wal-mart McD's etc... As for my "southern" question, lets just say my accent didn't take well in the St Louis area. I got alot of huh?!?! And what do you mean? questions. Although the patents (old ones mainly) thought it was the cutest thing ever. We got a call from Children's Hospital and will go up in a few weeks to check them out. Respironics makes TONS of our equipment. We are quite familiar with them. Thanks for your input!!
