When I lived on the Southside, except for the now defunct South Side Summer Street Spectacular, parade day was the day for the most activity.

Its almost like New York City with the number of people out on the sidewalks late in the evening, and parking is almost an impossibility.

Channel 4 every year wrongly states that we are the largest or 2nd largest in the country and we aren't even in the top 10. Nice parade regardless of the propaganda.

This parade should separate the true Irish from the poseurs. The weather will be perfectly consistent with what you'd expect to find in Ireland this time of year: Pure damp, cold, miserable ass.

Funny, their forecast is almost the mirror image of ours today.

While its still a blast, the big parade in Dublin is nothing like here. It's more akin to Mardi Gras then everyone in green.

Parade attendance was/is definitely sparse this year

As an irish person, growing up at home, we always had parades but they were more the float kind than the big pip bands. They were always nice to go to as a youngster. I have gone to the NY one many times and hate to see the uniformed people so drunk. We really dont go for that at all.

It is a bank holiday and usually we would go away for that weekend.

But its nice to see others celebrating their heritage.

Wow. You know, I normally vehemently defend our law enforcement officials whenever they garner criticism, but that video is disturbing on so many levels.

1.) The first cop accosting the videographer and demanding to know "Is that going to be evidence?" (as if he doesn't have the right to record what's going on).

2.) The next cop bullying someone saying in their face "Oh, now you want to apologize?!"

3.) The next cop tasing someone from a distance for unknown reasons.

4.) The next cop screaming the "f" word over and over in public.

5.) That same cop telling everyone to "get outta here".

Coupled with the ongoing Nate Harper (HarperGate?) scandal it's beginning to become tougher and tougher to defend our department's increasingly unprofessional actions.

With that being said I had to work yesterday (imagine that---SOME 20-somethings in this city don't have everything handed to them by mommy and daddy) and was incredibly annoyed by how difficult it was to make deliveries in South Side due to these immature morons, most of whom probably have no idea what the "true" meaning of St. Patrick's Day is, anyways.

Has KDK-Yinz picked up this story yet? Incredible. I'm going to post it on their Facebook wall if someone hasn't already beat me to it.
