DeFazio elected Allegheny County Council president - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Jumpin' Johnny, what a guy. I guess when he can't win an argument he'll "cartwheel out".

Mr. Sammartino is a Ross Township resident, he really doesn't qualify for mayor- but maybe he'll go for commissioner out there.

Jumpin' Johnny isn't the first wrestler turned politician by a long shot. Bob Backlund ran for Congress, Jerry Lawler for Memphis Mayor, Linda McMahon for US Senate, and of course Jesse the Body Ventura was governor of Minnesota.

It isn't that big of a jump from the squared circle to politics.

When I lived in Ross I would see him running up and down Thompson Run Road. Last Summer I was at a Bucco game and rode the elevator with him. Shook his hand and said, Bruno, I'm an old fan. His response: Yeah, I know I'm an old man.

A true Pgh legend.

I'm surprised an ex-Steeler has yet to run for mayor.

Do any of the ex-steelers actually live in the city?

The Pirates have been able to get some of their alumni into the political realm.

Bob Friend was our County Controller for a while, Bill Mazeroski ran for county commissioner in Westmoreland, and of course Jim Bunning served a couple of terms in the US Senate.

Mr. Swann ran for governor, not senate. For the record, he did lose rather badly.

I believe he lives in Sewickley Heights, if he was going to run for mayor, he'd have to do it there.
