If someone were smart, they would connect the dots between having an alligator in the river, and deer overpopulation, buy some traps and come up with a profitable tourist attraction

Just a quick search.

Alligators get sited and removed from the rivers often. When they get big people dump them. Same as a Pacu that gets caught from lakes and rivers and people often mistake them for a piranha.

A 7ft gator, while probably exaggerated, would be the biggest I've read/heard about in the rivers.

I know a few pet stores that sell gators, one of the owners said that pgh police officers were his biggest customer, they put them in the basement of their city homes to keep people out.

Most likely it hopped on a barge down south and decided to get off up here.

Maybe the alligator will be able to find that B-25 that crashed in the Mon in 1956.

Baby alligators can be bought at most any reptile show for around $30 and a 3-4 footer can be had for free. There's a couple pet stores that sell babies and they're pretty cool. When they get bigger and can't be reasonably handled, people dump them. I expect there's quite a few gators in the rivers and lakes. People often overestimate the size. A 7 ft gator is a good sized gator.
