Yes, absolutely true, but the scale of Pittsburgh by American standards is similar to the scale of Innsbruck by European standards. Relative to their countries, both are big enough that everyone has heard of them, and they definitely have a strong cultural identity, but they are also small enough that nobody thinks of them as "The Big City," and they are regional rather than national capitals -- see what I mean?

I love Pittsburgh a whole lot, but it's a stretch to say that Pittsburgh means as much to the US, culturally speaking, as Vienna means to Europe. Then again, Prantl's probably IS our best answer to Sacher torte...!

The top of Cadillac mountain at Acadia national park in Main, at dawn. Spent a day in that park years ago. I hope to get back there someday for a longer visit.

Interesting how peoples opinions vary. I MUCH preferred about 80% of the way up the mountain at lunchtime.

At lunch time I was somewhere around Thunder Hole and the Bubbles climbing to the top of that mountain with the huge glacial boulder hanging off the side of it. And yes that was also pretty spectacular.

Currently planning a trip to Puerto Rico & Culebra/Flamenco in late August
If you have the chance, you should really do one of the bioluminescent bays.

Grama's house. Three times a year I got off the farm and away from those damned chores!

Ft. Lauderdale is great, even though you have a beautiful ocean, you can eat at Primanti's right on the beach, so its like you never left home.

I haven't been able to do much traveling due to budgetary constraints, but Erie is probably one of the nicest places I've ever been.

Big Sur coast in California -- beyond spectacular. Drive down Highway 1 and have lunch at Nepenthe.
