I am just wondering about a few things about the Pittsburgh area. I'm in Boston now and do like it here, but my fiancee doesn't. I'm from close to Morgantown, WV, so that area isn't that unfamiliar to me. I just don't know much about the important stuff there beyond the Penguins and the Steelers and all.

I'm wondering what areas within probably 30 minutes of the PNC area would have a good school system and have a safe neighborhood. If I were to ever move there, my daughter would be coming just in time to start school.

One thing I would love to do is build my own home, so I'm wondering where I could find land to build a nice home probably in the $300,000-400,000 price range. I have thought about buying a less expensive place and then using the extra money and the new home. Where could I find a place to build with the type of schools and area I would want?

Also, is there much high rise construction taking place in or around the city? I'm in construction management, so I'm hoping to find a company that would allow me to specialize in the large commercial projects.

There is a lot of interest in developing Pittsburgh downtown area and it seems to be mostly, though not entirely, successful. Whether you can find the work you want within that industry or not is another story and I definately wouldn't move here without having a job lined up first.

There are plenty of options within 30 minutes of PNC in your price range, either old or new. You could find a very nice new construction suburban home in your general price range. Some areas to consider are Wexford, Ross, Cranberry but there are plenty of others as well. Depending on exactly where you and/or your wife are working would probably effect where you are living in regards to traffic, etc. There's very nice places in all directions of the city and within the city limits as well.

There's tons of info in these forums about what the good school systems are.
