This is a smart move IMHO. I don't think that is a good location for a movie theater.

I can see this.

1) what movies come out worth watching anymore? most is direct to amazon or direct to netflix - all the good actors are in their 80s and the writing borrows from everything. name me any movie in the last 15 years and I can give you at least 2 films it stole from. But we need MORE bigfoot movies.

2) at what cost? 12 bux+ a head plus the heirloom gourmet popcorn make a movie night out slightly more expensive than a steeler game (Im kidding, only slightly)
3) when the AMC at the waterfront starts to have viewership >10% capacity, people will start to listen and this is what happened here.

I don't know if that is true. I stopped going, but I would venture out to McCandless Crossing and go to a movie there. I haven't gone in years though, so maybe you are right. Covid created a change in people it seems and it has stuck.

The theaters were quite full last Friday. (took the grandkids to see Paw Patrol...)
Many people still enjoy them!

A theater in the cultural district would be ideal. That Bally's location was once a theater and is in a very good spot. The location next to a thriving cultural district with a plethora of hotels would solidify the customer base. Hopefully the project will resurface.

Not by a long shot. Dolby Cinema theater experience is something you cannot easily get at home (costs a lot of money to do if you tried). OLED quality big protector, over 40 speaker ATMOS system, back seat bass vibration, and the entire theater tested to ensure that quality. We have one only in this area at the waterfront. Now a non imax / specialized theater? Maybe but of course home experience is entirely different than a theater.

Movies are tricky now... it's mostly event stuff. It's hard to get people to pay when there are endless options at home and with much better ways to view at home than decades prior.

Downtown is kinda obsolete. I wish it wasn't but the way the powers that treat be small business I'm not surprised. If it wasn't for the sports teams we'd be in even worse trouble.
