That's probably why they went to the South Side and the North Side, because they had to go around the Hill.

Can you imagine a downtown Pittsburgh that stretches from the Point out to Oakland, Take a look at that map you posted. In my mind, any way to bring money into the city while redeveloping the Hill, all of it, into an extension of downtown is exciting, and suddenly puts Pittsburgh in the league of cities like Boston and San Francisco and Philly. What's that old saying? "The best offense is a strong defense." Pittsburgh has to get its traction and make definite forward progress now; because to use another football metaphor, it is in the red zone!
They have started on the Hill, homes and businesses are being remodeled, the new arena has broken ground. I just drove through the Hill the other night, took my time too, and I felt perfectly safe at 2am. I've always felt the Hill isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to seem. It could definitely use a reddin' up though

But the part under development is the Lower Hill, right? The rest of it, the mile and a half that it is out to Oakland, there aren't plans for. Am I wrong?

I tried the 2am thing and almost got my head blown off. Witnessed several murder just outside my window.Which part did you drive through? I used to live on Bedford ave. two years ago and oh my. For someone who lived in Homewood since gangs ran our city, I wouldn't go back. From Whiteside ( I think thats the name) they are building new home next to the Gifted School.

You're right, for the most part. I see improvement even towards Oakland though, nothing major going on. That part of the Hill just seems a little nicer over all as well, even from just 2 or 3 years ago.

Your right about the L.Hill. The upperhill they did tear down the projects on Francis st. Maybe the bedford dewelings would be next. After those down section are both gone, that part of the "HI" will thrive again.

Don't get me wrong, it's still considered a ghetto neighborhood of Pittsburgh and should be avoided by visitors, but I do seem improvement none-the-less.

*I do see improvement none-the-less.

I'm not for displacing poor people without some kind of real compensation, but it does seem a natural to do something with the Hill. Wish some of Pittsburgh's wealthy citizens (Theresa Heinz, the Rooneys for example) or ex-citizens like Mark Cuban who grew up in Mt. Lebanon, made his money in the high-tech world and now owns the San Antonio Spurs could do it.

You guys have a casino going on the north shore. Finally, something to do worthwhile in Pittsburgh.
