I thought Pittsburgh was a city? Cities have traffic. Cities have events that have traffic congestion. So what?

Most people will avoid going downtown in fear of traffic anyway. Yes some traveling to other events or work might be affected, but again that's the price of living or working in a city.

Two days people... it's just two days.
I personally don't care about traffic. I don't work downtown, so I doubt this will be affecting my life on September 24 & 25. I'm one of the posters, who is actually happy about Pittsburgh hosting it. I was just stating how KDKA, and other local news organizations, have already started saying how things like TRAFFIC GRIDLOCK will affect the locals.

White House officials said they focused on Pittsburgh because of the city's economic recovery from the decline of the steel industry in the 1980s, and because of its leadership in environmentally friendly buildings. The administration also is funding research on solar window panels under development for office buildings by PPG Industries.[LEFT]

It really isn't that hard. They want to demonstrate to world leaders on how to take a dirty dying city, and make it beautiful with Green buildings and diversify the economy.

Maybe our Largest LEED certified building in the world has something to do with it also. Kind of a good example when "green" is the big thing. I just want to laugh at the people who probably opposed building this in the early 2000s.

I agree, this is great for the City, deal with the traffic for 2 stinkin' days, it won't be that bad.

I'm completely confident that with proper planning, we can easily handle this event logistically. And I am very excited about the opportunity in general, so any minor inconveniences aren't going to bother me.

The official answer: Pittsburgh showcases how a city can recover from a terrible economic crisis.

The cynical answer: it is never too early for Obama to think about locking down Western PA in 2012.

My answer: both answers above probably have some truth to them, and in any event who cares--its exciting!
