You've scratched the surface with Phil Gramm, but you might want to dig a little deeper and get to Clinton's Treasury Secretary, Larry Summers:

Wars stimulate the economy, which means your argument actually supports the OP question...

1) The money was borrowed
2) There was no surplus...
3) Again, wars STIMULATE the economy, not create economic problems.

I searched your posting for some facts to answer the OP's question.. Nope, none there.. Liberals just posting to each other while pretending they answered the OP's question, isnt really contributing to the thread...

Wanna answer the OP's question? I doubt it!!

Ah yes, Mr "we don't need no stinking Glass-Steagall nor do derivatives need to be regulated" Gramm. He also came up with the Enron loophole.

The banks had been pushing for this for years..they finally found a sucker in Gramm. BTW..he went and got a cushy job at UBS right after that.

But I wouldn't put the blame only on him. One Congressman can't make laws by himself. He was a pawn of the bankers that pushed the changes but Congress approved them and the President signed them.

As Hillary says.."It takes a village" and we have had a village of idiots running this country for decades making bad decisions and playing favorites. Now we have to pay the price as the culmination of all this deregulation has put global economies on the brink of default.

Seriously, can anybody point to a defining moment during Bush's 8 years, other then the regrettable "Mission Accomplished" speech?

Bush was not asleep at the wheel. However, he was promoting socialist agendas of the left-

1. medicare prescription bill
2. seeking amnesty for illegals
3. marked increases in federal spending
4. no child left behind

It is interesting that the left would even mention the phrase "asleep at the wheel" with Obama in power. This idiot has destroyed the economy (perhaps irreparably with his massive debt accumulation) and the environment with failed policies and incompetence. He makes Carter look like a great president, and actually makes Bush look good (not a Bush fan).

No more socialists. Let's get a fiscal conservative in office (that may not necessarily be a republican) who will institute spending controls and some austerity measures to get the nation back on track.

This is a joke right? No one who lived during the Bush years could think there was low job growth.. Are you in your early 20's where you werent around at the time?

Bush is not to blame..he was just a pawn.
Look around..it's a global crisis, not just a US crisis.
What bad policies did BUSH put in place to cause the PIIGS to be in the same bad debt ridden place ?

Follow the money and the money..so far all of it, leads back to the bankers who influenced and bought country governments into doing their bidding.

Look behind every country's debt problems and you'll see it all leads back to risky speculation and taking on debt way beyond what they could afford.

Actually, if one looks at join dates, I have been here a tad longer than you. But that is of no matter.

Even though this does not address my contention that there is blame to be placed on both sides of the isle, I do have one honest simple question for you
