there is a discussion going on in another thread in this forum about how african american is offensive and i just wanted to find out for sure or set the record straight, for the blacks/african americans here is using the term african american offensive and if it is....and you want to be called black would it be offensive if you were called brown if the skin color was closer to brown?
just as a disclaimer i am not racist as i have many black friends and am quite offended when i hear the n word.
Because we don't refer to white people as European Americans. It can be deemed offensive because black Americans are Americans, they're not African, plus, many Africans are white.

quite a minority though. you do realize that there is also a small minority that are white but actually look black or vice versa. is it offensive to call those white people black, because of their skin pigmentation disorder?

Doesn't make them any less African. I suggest that we drop the whole hyphenated-American thing any way and just refer to all Americans as American, sadly the democratic party would have a lot to lose if we did that.
