Enter tree hugger lawyer with law suit to prevent drilling close to shore (the Sierra Club doesn't want to see oil rigs).

BP is going further and further out to get higher profit margins and trying to find that new "jackpot" at the expensive of huge risks of spills like we are experiencing. Who forced drilling out so far? No one. Who dropped regulations and allowed them to go out that far? Good ol' big oil bush and the other right wing cronies.

Good grief, I can't believe people are gullible enough to lick this Palin pablum up.

Unreal.

They drill where they find large amounts of oil. Period. These blind followers have been had by a gubernatorial drop-out.

If they had been required to drill a relief well, as is the case in many other civilized, oil-producing nations (which is why BP doesn't drill in Canada, because they are too damned cheap to drill relief wells), we would likely not have had to face as nearly as large a disaster. They got away with not being required to frill reliefs in the US because they sold the government a bill-of-goods. They claimed that their tech was so good that reliefs weren't necessary. We look like amateurs to the rest of the modern world. Thank goodness for American Exceptionalism!

So what do you call Jeb Bush who wouldn't allow drilling off the coast of Florida unless it was 100 miles out? A liberal environmentalist? I guess you prefer an Oil spill closer to shore given BP's safety track record!

LIBERAL ENVIRONMENTALISTS....
8 horrific years of Republican small government and deregulation led to BP cutting corners when it came to safety measures. Again, Republicans allowed companies to cut corners because regulation too costly and might take money from the war effort. Absolutely pathetic.

Considering the construction was completed in 2001, I'd say the permit to construct and build was done during the Clinton years..

You seriously comparing 30+ years ago to today? I bet if we were drilling in only 160 feet of water now, the problem would be resolved already..

Actually they wanted to build 500 feet off of the shores of Louisiana.. It was the federal government who veto'd the Louisiana permits and demanded they MOVE to 5,000 feet.. They are getting THE SAME OIL..

And you have the nerve to talk about ignorance.. They went further out because they were REQUIRED to. The initial permits for the drill was granted by Louisiana at 500 feet out. The Federal Government denied this request and FORCED them to move 5,000 feet out, DURING THE CLINTON YEARS. How do we know it was during the Clinton years? Because the construction was COMPLETED in 2001, and these things take YEARS to plan and build. The further out, the more expensive it is, thereby LOWERING profit margins.. Yes, the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT forced the drilling out that far..
