I'll answer: Because some people still can't imagine that anyone would support gay rights and equality unless they're gay themselves.

Good grief. I'm an elderly widow, a mother, a grandmother, and a born again Christian and I support gay rights and equality. My brother who is even older than I, is celebrating his 50th anniversary, is a father and grandfather, and an elder of his church supports gay rights and equality. All of my children are happily married and are parents and Christians and THEY all support gay rights and equality. And I have dozens of friends and relatives who feel just the same. We all happen to have the belief that all men and women are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. Among these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Gee, I guess that makes us all.....Americans.

Both straight men and gay men are there to do a job. That should come above everything else. Gay men are not there to hit on the straight guys or stare at them in the showers. The majority of gay men are going to shower and not risk doing something inappropriate such as "eyeballing" other guys in the shower. Military men must put up with many situations that are uncomfortable so I don't understand why this would be any different. Honestly, they should be mentally tough enough to shower with another gay man and realize he is not there to have sex......he's there to shower, he's there to serve his country, he's there to support his fellow troops, etc. There is nothing to fear showering with gay men......they are doing it already at the moment and nothing bad is happening.

Stop trying to change everyone for how they feel and calling them homophobic if they are uncomfortable in naked situations around their same gendered gay counterparts.

First the gay community wants to be accepted. Then they want to get married, then they want homosexuality taught in grade school and now they want to take showers with their heterosexual counter parts and NO ONE should have an issue with it because if one does, one is homophobic and told no one wants to look at their junk anyway. Stop shoving your agenda so hard.

You might get a better response.
Once again, if somebody is in the military I'd hope they are mentally strong. If they can't deal with showering with a gay guy who is not there to hit on him I'd hate to think what else they couldn't handle.

Hey, we will stop shoveling our "agendas" when you anti-gay folks stop treating us like second rate citizens, stop advocating treating us like dirt, and stop spreading lies/distortions/untruths about homosexuality.

If you can control your sexuality, what makes you think gay people can't control theirs??
It would be very difficult for a heterosexual male taking a shower with attractive females not to get an erection. Well, there is a good chance that he won't get aroused if he is 95, or just impotent

It does not mean that he will just grab one of two of the females and have sex with them, so in a way he would be controlling his passions, but not his....loin cloth from raising.

Yeah, I did and still work in the community.
All branches of the service will do as the law directs, funding or not.
MILCON projects take 5 years to be funded.

He doesn't make the rules; he implements them.
If/when DADT is repealed, funding will not be diverted from the war coffers into barracks.
I guess you don't know much about military funding.
Knowing that is how I make my living.

Fabricated? Hardly.
I guess you weren't in the shower room at my AF base; and I was not the only woman, either.

Remember Lynne England ? The US prisoner guard posing with a cigarette in her mouth humiliating a prisoner.

It was reported she had been previously disciplined for sneaking into her boyfriend's barracks.

Yet, this " windbag" poster claims she spent the night in her boyfriend's barracks and took a group shower with the male troops.

She must think readers of city-data are very gullible.
Sure, whatever you say.
Guess what, there are mixed barracks now.

I don’t think you have any idea about the military in the 70s.
And I wasn’t part of the grunts in the Army, but Air Force. You know, the people who don’t nanny their troops.
Oh, I could tell stories.

England was downrange in a war zone where women being unescorted were frequently attacked and raped by heterosexual men.
Those regulations are enforced for the woman's protection (as well as to harass her).
There’s a difference between being in a war zone and working for the Army and being in a peace time effort outside of a war zone working for the Air Force.

You might want to learn about the difference.

Nothing that the black community didn’t ask for nicely either.

All men are created equal. You know, from the Declaration of Independence.

Someone may have said this before in an earlier post ... but I couldn't stomach slogging through all the right wing jeebus-loving posts ...

If you have showered at the YMCA or any other public shower then you have already been "oogled" by gay men and judged. Your penis may or may not have been judged to be adequate. It's kinda like the way insecure heterosexual men judge women. We've seen your business and we may or may not be impressed.

Get over it.

Gay men have a lot more "self control" than heterosexual men have. No woodies in the shower! Imagine what may happen if Heterosexual men were to shower with women ... RAPE!

How many man-on-man rapes do you hear about?

Please.

We're already there! We don't want to lie about it anymore!
