As if the straight oil wasn't bad enough. The only reason for using dispersants is to make the oil less visible and less embarassing. It does not get rid of the oil, it only makes it harder to collectl. Cleaning untreated oil out of the swamps is going to be very time consuming. I am not certain treated oil can be collected.

I can only hope everyone concerned, from the drillers (test the blowout preventer in deepwater before counting on it operating, to the oil company (provide a valid worst case disaster response plan and don't try to take the cheap way out), the regulators (require a valid plan even if you are a Republican), the spill cleanup crew (don't use possibly toxic dispersants and start early and near the well), the fisherman (insure your income against the possibility of a spill) and the State Politicians (don't grandstand) and the Federal government (realize this is private matter and private beach owners can clean up their own mess at their own, or BP’s, cost).

When the Swamp Thing or the Creature From the Black Lagoon comes to pay us a visit then we will know that we have blown it big time.
