The NACCP, which captured national attention this week by formally condemning the "racist elements" in the Tea Party, is now supporting a California state lawmaker's proposal to turn the former home of the King of Pop into a state park.
I thought it could be a good privately-run theme park, similar to Graceland but with even more attractions. Why does the State of California have to get involved? Does the NAACP think the State would do a better job?
If the NAACP is so interested into turning the place into an tourist spot, let them purchase it and turn it into one themselves. The state is broke and don't need to waste our time on how to spend money we don't have.

The NAACP wants all the publicity for pushing the idea along without costing them a dime. They could careless how much the state would spend or if the state lost money in the long term. Of course if the plan does not happen, then the NAACP will just call them a bunch racists for not approving the plan.
State parks here in California are under enough stress. We need to restore funding to the parks we already have and then look at expanding. I believe that our parks are a treasure and funding should be there to make maintain them properly and make them affordable to all of our citizens. Unfortunately, major cuts have already been made. It could've been worse... there were some closings averted.
I just don't think that now is the time to add a new park. Maybe later...
I would imagine first they have to get it donated then raise the moeny to repair and maintain it. Without a donation its hardly likely :IMO.States are shuttig down parks to the public ithese tmes not adding new ones. They seem oblivious to what is happening in states spending everywhere.
