It has been reported that on Wednesday afternoon, the Senate will vote on a motion to take up a stop-gap spending measure to keep the government funded beyond September 30, the end of the fiscal year. That bill is expected to have bipartisan support.

A Democratic leadership aide said the Senate could adjourn by the end of the day Wednesday and not return till about November 15 after the mid-term elections. It is now planned that the House will also adjourn by Thursday and not return until mid November.

Default Stabenow speaks on the floor about TIER V

Stabenow has just presented and spoken about the TIER V bill (S.3706) on the floor of the Senate at 2:35 pm. (as was predicted on previous posts). Sounds like the doubts of some shall have to rest. Anyway, she is making a plea to other Senators which is what is done when a BILL is presented on the floor of the Senate. Whatever happens from this point forward, the previous posts on this topic have been confirmed. Let's begin to consider MORE evidence and information than what was being considered when looking at where certain legislation may be going.

Stabenow is now being followed by Senator Sheldon in his plea to the rest of the Senators. Again, let's keep 'hope' alive. Apparently, the hopes we were keeping in recent posts were not 'false' hopes, regarding the presenting of S.3706 (TIER V) Bill to the floor of the senate (this week).

Let's see where this may go, but our efforts need to grow now that the BILL is on the Senate Floor. We need to ramp up the calling, whether the vote comes this week or not. We need warriors to respond, not naysayers. Let's support all the efforts of those that have been a part of this 'push' for this Bill to have reached the Senate floor.

I think she knew it would be shot down and really brought it to the floor just to say she did.

This would never be a bipartisan Bill that would ever get through without initially getting 'shot down' no matter when it was presented because of the position the 'right' holds on unemployment benefits. But it NEEDED to get presented to ever get anywhere, which it was. Let's make those calls in 'support' of what's now on the floor of the Senate (as was previously predicted in recent posts).

I would say as of today if it gets voted on I would say it gets voted down. Now after the elections we can hope for something I suppose but I'm not holding my breath. The unemployed have been thrown under the bus.

Default Stabenow's Tier V Bill Blocked In Senate

True to her word, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) this afternoon called for the Senate to pass by unanimous consent HR 3706 the Americans Want to Work Act -- her bill which would add a Tier V of 20 additional weeks of federal unemployment benefits for states with three-month average unemployment rates of at least 7.5%.

As expected, the Republicans blocked a vote, thus shutting down the effort -- this time via Senator George LeMieux (R-FL). LeMieux at first resisted saying he had not read the bill, but then argued against the categorization of the new Tier as "emergency spending," which would add to the deficit.

Nothing more is expected on federal unemployment benefits legislation until the Congress reconvenes in mid-November; at that time the extensions of the November 2010 eligibility cut-off dates of the existing EUC Tiers 1-4 are most likely to be addressed.

diorgirl : from the time they * address it * and the time they * pass it * could take many months ( tiers extension )...

How long did it take the last time they addressed and passed our last extension fiasco ? ( in terms of months )

My predictions:

-Congress reconvenes in mid-November.
-An extension of Tiers 1-4 will be presented and blocked.
-Fill in congressional mumbo jumbo
-December rolls around.
-Unemployed cries for help as they cannot afford to even keep the hot water running this Christmas, let alone buy presents.
-Congress recess for Xmas-New Years.
-Somewhere in January-February we get another extension.
