The "median" is the "middle" value in the list of numbers

Take the numbers: 1,2,3,4,5

median: 3
mean: 7.5

....
In your example, mean is not 7.5. Both median and mean are 3.0.

Better example: take 1, 2, 3, 4, 20
Here, median = 3 and mean = (1+2+3+4+20)/5 = 6

PS: I am sure you know. My brain farts too.

the average 'class a' mechanic at a dealership makes at least 70k...and a mechanic is WORKINGCLASS, which is BELOW middleclass

even back when clinton was potus (nearly 20 years ago) they classified middleclass as 60-200k....and that was 20 years ago
I have to remind everyone once again, 98.5% of Americans make less than $250K. In 2010. I don't think that middle class was considered $60K-200K back in 1990. Those numbers are too high. Please provide some documentation.

Those are government figures..go to the DOL site.
They have 2009 median income....the MIDDLE number that divides the upper 50% from the lower 50%.

Do you have a specific link? I hate to drag through some of those websites. I will say, that the median income is not the issue of this thread. It's where the line is drawn for "wealthy".

Well Obama said $200K for an individual and $250K for married couples.
That's not on the DOL site nor the Census site. That's Obama telling us the line for "wealthy".

This IS spreading the wealth around..robin hood style..take from the rich and give to the poor.
And the article with the transcript has him defining the $250K wealth..only now it's $200K for an individual so in the span of 2 years the wealthy has come down $50K.

Its been $250,000 for families, and $200,000 for Individuals from the start, its the top two brackets for each (though the 3rd bracket from the top is actually being pushed upward) and roughly the top two % for married filers, and single filers.

From my link which contains the transcript of Obama's words..$250K right there:

"Obama said, "First off, you would get a 50% tax credit so you'd get a tax cut for your healthcare costs….. if your revenue is above 250 – then from 250 down, your taxes are going to stay the same. It is true that from 250 up – from 250 – 300 or so, so for that additional amount, you’d go from 36 to 39%, which is what it was under Bill Clinton."
