"Harris Poll officials say the finding that so many people are unfamiliar with the most powerful leaders in Washington is striking, and suggests that many can hold strong views about Washington without following what occurs there."

"I don't have time to look up that boring junk. My TV friends tell me all I need to know."

Unfortnately this is how it's been for years.

I remenber Steve Allen's Man on The Street. Jay Leno does it. Hannity used to, don't now if he still does,
I remember a recent college grad in Political Science being asked who the Vice Preisident was, and didn't know, along with Secretary of State and other positions.

Maybe UPI.com could tell us exactly what it is that we are supposed to know about these leaders.

The problem is that most news agencies are more interested in telling us what they think about us than they are in informing us of what our leaders are actually doing, and this article is a prime example.

If you're too busy "working" or watching American Idol to follow the issues and inform yourself about those people you're sending to Washington, then please do those of us who actually do the research before we vote a huge favor and stay home on election day.

Your uninformed choices will be the death of this country.

You know as a first generation American I am always amazed at how little most US citizens know about their own politics. We used to have a thing called "civics' in where we taught about such silly things as Congress and how bills were passed!
Now nobody knows how their Government works and rely on the media to inform them! This poll doesn't surprise me at all!
