Thank you for that research. However, profit=income-expenses. Obviously I would agree that some of those expenses could be cut down through some streamlining but it's not for us to say that these companies are making a hideous amount of money just through gouging people.
ETA: Sorry, I read it wrong!! I would love to see a breakdown of their expenses. It's a little hard to argue that their overhead is too high when we don't know what their overhead is.

Oh, I see. It's OK for some employers not to offer insurance. It's OK for people doing menial work to be uninsured; they're just scum anyway. They can go die somewhere if they get sick. If they do recover, they should look for a different job that does provide insurance. I see it all now!

I have not yet been in need b/c I have no problem with working for crap pay 80 hours a week to make ends meet if something did happen. I don't believe in karma but if I did, trust me, I would be looking forward to good things. You don't know me and what I've done in my life, you're judging me based on my belief that people should work and earn what they have, healthcare included.

Right, but it does not state what the expenses are specifically. It's not broken down. The profit percentages, though, speak for themselves. If you earn a lot and have to spend a lot to make that much, which is the nature of health insurance companies, you may still not be left with much of a percentage of gross profit. That's why I'm saying I want to see what those expenses are, I want to see a detailed P&L, which may not be made public. It's not for us to say that they're spending too much on frivolous things if we can't even see what expense categories they list on their P&L.

In case you haven't noticed, the job market sucks right now, at least here in Colorado. If you get any job, you consider yourself lucky. You may not have a choice about getting one with benefits under the present system. You may not have all day to look around for a new job when you're working 80 hrs a week.

You don't know what I've needed for healthcare. You don't know what I know about health issues, I have a background in healthcare and my mom is an RN who currently works for an insurance company. Trust me, I know more than you'd like to think.

When there's a will, there's a way. It just so happens that for most people, that will is not strong enough to find the way. They're rather whine and complain than take control of their lives.

No I'm judging you based on you taking absolute credit for your situation and assigning absolute blame for that of others. You go ahead and tell me that you earned everything you have 100% and fortune hasn't lent a helping hand here or there along the way. And you go ahead and tell me that everyone who falls through the cracks and is ruined by the current system brought it upon themselves. That's the type of arrogance I expect from most people on your side of this debate.
