Many people, especially republicans, seem to be much more lenient in how they view the responsibility of corporations than how they view the responsibility of other individuals. Why is it that if an individual lies to you, pollutes your land, steals, sells faulty products, sells addictive products (e.g. drugs), acts slutty, etc. it's not okay, but if corporations do it it's okay? Shouldn't corporations be held to the same, or greater, moral standards (because of their greater ability to cause harm) as individuals?
This is a really good question, considering that corporations have the status of "persons" in some contexts.
The problem is that corporations have become multi-national, with no allegiance to any one country or community any more. The corporations have run amok. The way to deal with it is to get local, state and federal gov'ts to pass more stringent environmental, consumer safety, etc. laws. The challenge there is to get around the corporate lobbies. The system is corrupt. Lobbying shouldn't involve money/bribes.

How are corporations exempt for being punished for all the things you cited? Acting slutty being the exception.
They get away with all that stuff for years, and IF someone finally sues them, a slap on the wrist is often the result.
Please, I work for a corporation. One-third of my time is spent insuring we stay in line with DOT and FDA regulations. We spend an average of 30 minutes per day per employee on safety meetings. Sometimes I wonder if all these anti-corporate people have ever worked for one.
I quit my job for many reasons but one was the lack of integrity of the company...

In the minds of the far right, rich = gooooood. Large corporations = goooood. They somehow feel that they are above all, can do whatever they want, and that's a-ok.
