I would feel safer but those silos would probably need a lot of work to get them back in order.

What has our country done with our missiles anyway? Just where are they located?

There are still missile silos. Some have been decommissioned because of treaties with the Soviets limiting the number of nuclear warheads, and some older ones have been scrapped because of technical obsolesence. The oldest missles had only one nuclear warhead. Then MIRV technology was invented which enabled ten independently targeted warheads to be placed on a single missile.

Don't forget we also have Polaris missile firing submarines. IIRC, these missiles can also hold ten warheads. Not to mention nuclear tipped cruise missiles.

I'm not sure what your concern is considering the fact that 1 Ohio Class submarine, the U.S. has 14, carries 24 Trident II missiles which can target 192 separate targets with a warhead carrying 100x the destructive power of the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. So, what is the basis of your concerns?

Thanks, I knew smart people on C-D would have the answer. Our military might hasn't been talked about for sometime but I think some saber rattling may be in order when other countries rattle theirs. Might not be a good thing for the doves but our world is not full of doves. The hawks need to be rolled out sometimes to remind the world what military might they are up against.

It was done in the old days to stop aggressions so lets hope it can be done now to stop aggressions.

Yeah, it's time to get back to the good ole days...
bring back nuclear attack alerts in schools.
And what could be more fun than helping dad on weekends to build the backyard bomb shelter.

Well you know how men are. Mine is bigger than yours so watch your step buddy.

Nuclear attack drills = pat down at airports. It gives the illusion of being safe.

When you are the biggest and the baddest you don't need to advertise the fact.

And how about this? http://defensetech.org/2010/07/09/u-...stern-pacific/

Now, we learn from Time’s Mark Thompson that three former strategic missile submarines converted to carry Tomahawk cruise missiles (SSGNs) surfaced on the same day, June 28, in the Philippine’s Subic Bay, in Pusan, South Korea and at the naval base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. Each converted boomer holds up to 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles.
As Thompson writes, the alarm bells must have sounded that day in Beijing:
“In all, the Chinese military awoke to find as many as 462 new Tomahawks deployed by the U.S. in its neighborhood. “There’s been a decision to bolster our forces in the Pacific,” says Bonnie Glaser, a China expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington. “There is no doubt that China will stand up and take notice.”

Leave the empty missile silo's for the people who like to live as moles.......
