If the Bush tax cuts and deregulation worked out so well, why did we end up in a recession surrounded by record breaking deficits because of it?

Kerby, let me help you out. Recessions are a recurring feature in the life of a free economy. It doesn't matter who is in charge or what the policies are, we human beings know how to take things to excess. Business cycle downturns have ocurred under Democrats, Republicans, Whigs, and Federalists.

The Bush tax cuts have had a hugely unfortunate side effect. They took millions of people off the tax roles, and stole the opportunity to be contributing members of society. I agree with you, this is not a good thing--too many people are coasting, and too few are peddling.

The Carter/Clinton/Bush deregulation had mixed effects, but the most pertinent cause of our recent troubles was the insane policy pursued by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd with regard to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Tax cuts must be in sync with spending cuts. Bush cut taxes but increased spending with the wars, and then by starting the bailouts with his democratic congress. Then Obama came in and increased spending to even higher levels. If the FED would cut down on military spending and social programs by 50% we wouldnt even need income tax.

I've found that topics that are titled along the lines of "Question for...." are usually troll posts that are just plain dumb ones 90% of the time. This topic has been beaten to death in so many posts, I've lost count

Obama should be better than Bush. He promised to be and he lied. Obama should be asking Bush for advice...you know, train him on how to be a president. Oh, I know...ask the American people what we want, and actually do it.
