As a member of the Commonwealth I had to laugh grimly when I see people believing how great Churchill was.

He wanted King Edward VII to be able to marry a twice divorced woman even though she very sympathetic towards the Nazis.
That would have blown the Commonwealth apart.

Some of his great ideas.

Send 50,000 Aussies and Kiwis to attack 500,000 Germans in Greece in 1941 with no air cover.

Stating Italy was the soft stomach of Europe, one glance at a map will show mountains and rivers after rivers.

So no, we in the Commonwealth believe Churchill was a meddler who should have left it to the military

are you hoping to change something by ranting over something that happened over 50 years ago ?

Churchill was a good leader,he was a terrible General/Admiral.

Don't forget his demand to send the Prince of Wales and the Repulse to Singapore.

Ehhh...perhaps you've forgotten the fact that you WON???

And "soft stomach of Europe" likely meant that the Germans were overextended (which basically meant a 3 front war), and the Italians wouldn't put up much of a fight. Guess what...he was right.

Hmm, a bust of Churchill sent back, we who had a lot of relatives die because of Churchill's dumb idea of attacking Turkey in 1915 would have dropped it in the river.

Of course Churchill was the one who wanted the troops on Crete sacrificed instead of being lifted off.
So a hero to the troops, nope.

Actually, portions of Italy was still in German hands at the end of the war...it was never a breakout but a long hard slog that cost a lot of Allied troop's lives.

In the end Churchill did save the British Commonwealth from the failed appeasement policies Neville Chamberlain had with the Nazis. German is not your national language is it? Thank Churchill, his alliance with the US, and the brave men who fought the Nazis, many who paid the ultimate price, for that fact.
