Reagan also ran up a tab. So did many other administrations. Our government is just like our citizens - spending like drunken sailors and damn the torpedoes...! Our entire economy is predicated on bubbles, spending, and consumption based on credit. We are not a nation of savers like the Asians. Of course, eventually we'll all have to sober up and face the music, it'll be just too late to do anything about it.

It's like we never learn, even the previous 3 years have taught us nothing witness the efforts of the feds to "get more consumer spending - that is going to help the economy" and bailing out credit giving banks. We are basically now trying to get out of the crisis by getting even deeper into what triggered it originally (spending money we don't have)

As usual you're ignoring the reality of the time we live in to pitch your worn down hyperbole to the half a dozen people here who love this crap.

Why did they spend again? Was it a shopping spree on HSN? Or was it to save an economy in free fall?

Of course you're exaggerated claims about 'not a moment too soon' are laughable at best. Your heroes deficit spent while cutting taxes, doubling the debt, and are about to do it all over again. The first thing they did was demand we cut taxes for the top tier, during a time of war no less (history repeats itself I guess) which ultimately will add on nearly another trillion on top of the heap. Of course in that vote they also agreed to extend UE, which also goes against their fiscal message. Not a peep from you though. Wonder why that is? Not a peep from the 'bagger types either. Why not?

Next they'll be voting to raise the debt ceiling, in direct contrast to everything they "stand for." I'm sure you'll blame that on Jimmy Carter, Ted Kennedy, Clinton and Obama when that happens, right?

Correction: The Democrat-controlled Congress spent an average of 2.8% more than Reagan asked for and a (cumulative) 24.5% over 8 years.

Hogwash. Obama taking trillions out of the private sector to redistribute to liberal pet projects has exacerbated the severity of the recession.

Again, you ignore the FACTS. When the dems took over, the debt was $8.5 T, now it is closing in on $14 T.....no comment from you though, just more blame Bush nonsense. The deficit was $161 BILLION, now it is $1.5 TRILLION and obama's budget will generate a TRILLION every year for the next 10 at least...no comment from you about that either. One would think if $161 B sent the Left into such a tizzy, creating a deficit 10 TIMES that would bother them, but no, its OK as long a democrat is doing it.

Next they'll be voting to raise the debt ceiling, in direct contrast to everything they "stand for." I'm sure you'll blame that on Jimmy Carter, Ted Kennedy, Clinton and Obama when that happens, right?
It will definitely be the fault of the democrats and obama, who have INCREASED the debt by 60%....you CAN'T deny this, the FACTS are there...but you once again ignore the facts.

Yes, it is a runaway snow ball that Bush made and put into motion!

Default Treasury: $2 Trillion - That's how much Government Liabilities rose IN JUST ONE YEAR

If Americans were as good at math as we are at self-esteem building, we would realize what is going on and how it all HAS to end:

The GOP, the factory of creating debt is taking back the house from Reagan on, the did nothing else then spend spend spend with the exception of one other thing:

Deregulation, which created the worst economic mess since the Great Depression, between the bailouts and necessary efforts to take us from the brink... but don't let facts ruin your cute little fake narrative.

This madness must stop. I want to see the Republicans not raise the debt ceiling. Any Rep who votes to raise it should be targeted for defeat in their next primary and replaced with a real conservative who truly wants to lower the deficit.

If the GOP game plan is a lot of flag waving, that'll end up as a big fail too.
Federal spending has climbed 100% over the last 10 years.. Are you really claiming we've seen a 100% increase in benefits from the government? Is there anything you've seen to reflect the massive increase in spending?
