NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim April 10 through April 16, 2011, as National Volunteer Week. I call upon all Americans to observe this week by volunteering in service projects across our country and pledging to make service a part of their daily lives.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventh day of April, in the year of our Lord two thousand eleven, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
holy crap, why isn't anybody talking about this? Where is the media? Rahm talked about this with Stephanopolis. He said all Americans below 64 will be conscripted into National Service. 18-25 year olds will undergo 3 month basic training.
also this; now under the authority of Obama
Directive 51
The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive, signed on May 9, 2007 declares that in the event of a “catastrophic event”, George W. Bush can become what is best described as "a dictator":
"The President shall lead the activities of the Federal Government for ensuring constitutional government."
This directive, completely unnoticed by the media, and given no scrutiny by Congress, literally gives the White House unprecedented dictatorial power over the government and the country, bypassing the US Congress and obliterating the separation of powers. The directive also placed the Secretary of Homeland Security in charge of domestic “security”. New presidential directive gives Bush dictatorial power

Holy cow, here we go again on the Civilian Army conspiracy knee jerk crapathon.
This really needs to be directed to his Liberal friends as the Conservatives do more service work than they do and contribute more money donations too!

I don't know about service work, but when money donated to churches, most of which goes to running the church, not helping the poor, the differences between liberals' and conservatives' monetary contributions disappear.
I know plenty of liberals who volunteer, also conservatives.
Carter, you think Shariah law is fear mongering, so what you say doesn't carry a lot of weight with me. Thanks for playing.
Since when does a volunteer program cost billions of dollars?
The Generations Invigorating and Education Act, known as the GIVE Act -- sponsored by Reps. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y, and George Miller, D-Calif. -- was approved by a 321-105 vote and now goes to the Senate.
The legislation, slated to cost $6 billion over five years, would create 175,000 "new service opportunities" under AmeriCorps, bringing the number of participants in the national volunteer program to 250,000. It would also create additional "corps" to expand the reach of volunteerism into new sectors, including a Clean Energy Corps, Education Corps, Healthy Futures Corps and Veterans Service Corps, and it expands the National Civilian Community Corps to focus on additional areas like disaster relief and energy conservation.
It is the first time the AmeriCorps program, which was created by President Clinton in 1993, will be reauthorized, and supporters say it will have additional funding to match the renewed interest in national service since President Obama's and the acute need for volunteerism and charity in tough economic times. Sixteen months ago, Arthur C. Brooks, a professor at Syracuse University, published "Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism." The surprise is that liberals are markedly less charitable than conservatives.
Conservatives More Liberal Givers
-- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).
-- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.
-- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.
I'm chapparoning a class of seventh graders for ten hours tomorrow on a field trip. Thats my contribution. Now where did I put those ear plugs
