So far the proposal is to cut $100 billion...$78 billion from the defense budget. That's about 1/10 of what continuing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy will cost. Lots of luck with that one.

I guess they've forgotten that the low taxes for the wealthy and two wars plus crooks on Wall St. is what got us into this mess to begin with.

Does anyone really think the repubs can reduce spending? they have no indication from past actions to support that thought. Didn't the extension of the tax cuts give anyone a clue... or is that looking too close to relaity of what that party is about... lip service to get power so they can profit and screw everyone else. more of the same, business as usual.

They don't like to see funded programs ( health care for everyone) work they like programs that are unfunded like medicare part D which will bankrupt the system get voted in... Well maybne they will take their billions and buy some massive homes in FL... oh wait they probably invest in Coista Rica and other foreign places...

Yep! We're the only industrialized country in the world whose government supports over 400 companies which make money from sick people. What we need is a single payer system and the Pubs have fought any variation of that concept tooth and toenail. Poor people or what used to be the middle class who vote for them deserve what they get. IMO

The Democratically controlled lame duck Congress just extended the Bush tax cuts for two more years. The same Democratically controlled Congress along with BO just spent four years not repealing the Bush tax cuts, not defunding either war, not accelerating our withdrawal from Iraq or developing an exit strategy for the Afghan War - hell, I don't even know why we're still in Afghanistan. Do you?

Wall Street? Have any idea who actually wrote the Dodd-Frank Act? Any clue how many made to order loop-holes, special provisions and exemptions are buried deep in the reams of legal gobbledygook it contains? Me either, but don't feel bad. Nobody does.

As for the proposals, I'll wait to see what gets passed out of the House before I throw in the towel.

Actually the $78 billion defence cut is not their idea. It came from Gates last year, and the Congress simply has to approve it.

Regardless I'm waiting to see how much they actually cut. They're good at cutting aid to students, veteran's benefits, highway projects, welfare and entitlements...not so much defense.

Yes, I would not be surprised if they oppose the military cut, even if it did come from Pentagon.
