Well this all reads like a book or a set of them...

We're done with "Brave New World" so now we're implementing "1984" since everyone is now afraid of the boogeyman and totally apathetic to rules and regulations being put in place...OPTIONAL of course.

Gee, I don't think people have a problem with keeping track of their passwords and such.

Just another opportunity to takeover and control another aspect of our lives.

I used to get a new password for every site I registered at.

Most of them, after not going there for awhile, I forget. So I try to use one of three or four passwords for everything now.

Face it folks--he absolutely positively can not STAND the fact that we peons have thousands of sources from which to glean the news of the day, and he also cannot comprehend why his agenda has been so resoundingly rejected.

Trying to downplay the massacre of Nov. 2nd made him look even more clueless than he actually is about what the American electorate really thinks about him and his obssession with controlling the economy and our lives.

Look at picture. Note the dates... looks like 2012.. and then think of all the forclosures that are going to have to happen.

It's not gonna be over for a long, long time.
Reading that post of yours is like a welcome to backwards world.

The credit card companies raised the hell out of their fees and rates after Obama announced his upcoming changes to cards.
He is doing the opposite of saving the economy, he is driving it to default. Job numbers are horrible and he confiscated a sixth of the US economy through Obama-care claiming it would save money. Now it comes out it will cause us extra trillions.
Banks did fine till Barney Frank and the Democrats decided they and Fannie May and Mac had to give no look loans to people with no way to pay anything back.

We are a Capitalist Democratic republic with a socialist cancer in the middle of it called union government employees and great society programs.

This never employed in the real world President is driving the whole country to unemployment and default.

But having a government issued Internet ID will save us all from that..right ?

The current default system with one username/pw per account is archaic, cumbersome and has more security holes than a shot-gunned Swiss cheese. Plus it's a nightmare to enforce, legally.

Having your mother's maiden name as the ultimate in security does not make for a very robust security solution.

Commercial websites set up authentication certificates through places like VeriSign all the time - having something akin to that for consumers would be boon for Internet security.

From where I sit, a robust Digital Signature is exactly the sort of thing Government should be overseeing. And it's being parked in the Commerce Department, not DHS or NSA, which is exactly where it should be. Hopefully, they'll not farm it out to the lowest bidder, Diebold-style.
We don't need government to protect us from ourselves. If this is such a grave concern for you, might I recommend getting a program such as KeePass. I remember one password (the password to the database) and it remembers all my other passwords for me. The password to access my primary banking institution is over 30 characters long and is changed multiple times per year. Yet I have no trouble getting into it, all without the government to "help" me do so.

That's right, we have software that will help you remember those "oh so difficult to remember" passwords that trouble you so much you need the government to help you with it. And guess what, it won't cost billions of dollars like whatever government "solution" they try to think up (which will undoubtedly "conveniently" be routed through places like the NSA)

This whole "consideration" is just another step towards censorship and control of what is by nature a free and open platform.

Remember the big stink people made when the government wanted to know what library books you were reading? This is taking it up a much bigger notch and yet, surprisingly or not, not a huge outcry.

You obviously do not know that your IP address is traceable, and always has been, welcome to the 21st Century.

IP addresses are computer identifiers, and are not registered with your name with the government. Very different from a "person" identifier that gets registered with the government. I can sell my computer and no one would know it. I can also use a public computer and no one would know it.

If you are trying to hide there are some ways to do so but none are easy or foolproof. If the government wanted to know who you are from your posts on this or any other discussion board they Will find out, if you do not think so you are kidding yourself. It is why I warn some posters when they start crossing the line of free speech to making certain types of threats or call for the overthrow of our government, it is illegal and boards such as this Are monitored. You can get in real trouble for making certain statements publically and believe me those that might come to talk with you will have No Sense of Humor.
