Comcast has received approval to acquire 51% of NBC-Universal from GE but with conditions attached. They must offer broadband service to low income people for $10 [TEN DOLLARS] a month. They must also offer notebooks/laptops for $150 or less to low income people.
I guess why not. They are already getting free cell phone service.

Who exactly is forcing them to provide internet service for $10/month?

Give them $10 broadband.... and the speed? probably 64kb/s or lower.

Free notebook? I'm sure there are loads of cheap POS from China that can be given away.

Redistribution of wealth.

The rest of us will pick up the tab.

Our rates will skyrocket while "social justice" is experimented with.

Didn't these lib/progressives learn anything from the mortgage crisis?

Nobody is forcing Comcast to take the deal. They can ALWAYS decide it's not in their best financial interest and walk away.

If they take the deal its because THEY CAN MAKE MONEY.
