I don't know, but I wouldn't mind finding out. I believe the meat has already been eatten by so-called modern man. If I recall at least one find, still had edible meat below permafrost.
Could someone explain to little ole me WHY we would want to do this?
They went extinct for a reason, yes? I don't get it.
So we know more about our genetic code. We don't know much about "junk" DNA and the effects on protein transcription. Cloning and reanimation could provide answers...just like splicing. We also don't know how aging works...which goes back to junk DNA. We do know that bases seem to cleave off as we age, but we don't know the function of that cleavage and the effects of protein production. Any work on DNA is to simply know more.
I wonder when the plague will be brought back by the genetic engineers.
You don't need genetic engineers, you can use the remains in 14th century graves to make a viable culture. Also you can get a starter sample from the US Government from Fort Detrick or Plum Island.

Don't they do that now with the animals we already have? Would having an extinct animals DNA fill some scientific gaps & give them more knowledge?
I think it's actually pretty cool but, won't it upset the balance in the animal kingdom if we had them walking around?
"The woolly mammoth the largest animal on land", poor elephant
