Do you all realize that the benchmarking data changed with this report ?
I don't know the details though.
Employment Situation Summary
"In addition, establishment |
|survey data have been revised as a result of the annual bench- |
|marking process and the updating of seasonal adjustment factors.|
|Also, household survey data for January 2011 reflect updated |
|population estimates. See the notes at the end of the news |
|release for more information about these change."
I found it further down in the above link...population decreased..less working and less in the labor pool:
"The adjustment decreased the estimated size of the civilian noninstitutional population
in December by 347,000, the civilian labor force by 504,000, and employment by
472,000; the new population estimates had a negligible impact on unemployment rates
and most other percentage estimates. Data users are cautioned that these annual pop-
ulation adjustments affect the comparability of household data series over time."
See above..every year the BLS does adjustments to the benchmarking data and birth/death rates based on the previous years data.
From the link in my post:
Employed persons went from -472 to +589 (thousands).
So there were about 1 million more employed than the BLS knew about. This is all based on census data.
Sooooo, this is bad news? I await instructions on how mad to get.
No! Don't get mad just get real!
