Growing pains: House GOP stumbles - Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan - POLITICO.com

“Obviously, it’s been a tough first month. We’re like teenagers whose voice is just starting to change — we’ve got some growing up to do,” admitted a top House Republican lawmaker, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The House GOP failed to pass a measure that would recover $180 million in U.S. funding from the United Nations. This was part of Cantor's "YouCut" campaign.

They failed to pass the Patriot Act extension. A big win for most liberals and tea people. Some members of the GOP didn't even know the vote was coming up.

During the campaign season, Boehner said that bills would move through committees and allow an open, transparent amendment process. As of now, not one single bill has been sent through a committee in regular order. They even held a vote on the Patriot Act extension using modified open rules.

They haven't done anything about jobs.

Their message that cutting spending creates jobs hasn't connected with most Americans.

They compromised during a lunch with the President yesterday. They're going to try and find "common ground" with Obama and the Democrats.

It's been a rough month for House Republicans. They're learning that governing is a lot tougher than making a stump speech.

The tea party voted 44 to 52 in favor of the patriot act extension, they were in sync with the republicans. What tanked it was the R's were expecting the DINO vote which didn't happen as most all have been voted out.

Even the members of our Tea Party are split on the Patriot Act. The Republicans have had a big win in new members so I expect a period of adjustment.

The patriot act is the most anti-constitution, big government bill that has passed in recent history, if not ever. This is the polar opposite of those "less government!" "pro constitution!" cries from the tea party. Having one, let alone the vast majority of them voting for this terrible bill really speaks volumes.

Hey... I'm a lefty and even I don't count anybody out for a rough first month.

Gloating at this point is even more foolish than it is unseemly.

Those that have no idea what to do, and yet are in charge, will likely have a hard time.

It doesn't speak volumes silly. The Tea Party has people from all political parties. We have some Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians and some with no affiliation. See how little you actually know about the Tea party?

We don't always agree on everything. What we do agree on is this administration is dangerous to the future of America.

I'm not counting them out either. Just showing proof that they've had an awful start. Like I said in the OP, House Republicans are learning that governing is a lot tougher than making a stump speech.
