"MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker says the Wisconsin National Guard is prepared to respond wherever is necessary in the wake of his announcement that he wants to take away nearly all collective bargaining rights from state employees. "
Walker said Friday that he hasn't called the Guard into action, but he has briefed them and other state agencies in preparation of any problems that could result in a disruption of state services, like staffing at prisons.
A very good plan and something every state should be doing.

His plan would require higher pension and health insurance contributions and remove bargaining rights except in a limited way over wages.
Police Unions and Firefighters Unions are not included in this.
That's because they're a bunch of whiners. They complained about having to take 4 furlough days like the rest of the city workers....four, in one year. boo hoo. Walker is a joke. He has changed the state slogan to something you'd see over a w*orehouse..."Open for Business". And this thing w/the union, he's trying to abolish the unions right to negotiate, which he will probably not be able to do because it's law. He ran a platform of creating jobs & has done nothing about it, not even a peep. And this little bit about the National Guard is nothing but a drama queen reaction. He's ridiculous.
He can't do it unless the Senate and the House are willing to pass legislation to back him up--they have to change the law, and the governor doesn't have that kind of power on his own. That's pretty extreme language though--maybe he's just grandstanding? Talk tough and then blame it on Dem's if it doesn't pass, but why would you portray public employees as people who would need to have the National Guard brought in against them? That's bizarre.

Doesn't the GOP control both chambers in the state?

What's interesting is that if he has to proclaim the national guard be on alert then he knows for damn sure what he's doing isn't right.

What was he thinking in regard to removing their collective bargaining tool? Or what was he thinking in stating that the WI National Guard would be ready? Which one?
If the former, it is to help the state get out of its huge debt that will bankrupt it. If it is the latter, I suspect it was a chapter from Regan when he fired the striking air traffic controllers.

Some questions exist about how much support it will have among Republicans. Most likely will support it, but if a few break with Walker (especially in the State Senate) than it might not pass.
