A meth addict might see their dealer as a friend. But, an outsider might view the relationship differently.
The biggest issue with China will be when they decide to take back Taiwan. I don't think it will happen until we are really hurting financially, which should assist in convincing us not to butt in. But it's going to be a giant fiasco either way if they do it.
Or if you think there are issues of mistrust (like spying) well, China and the US and in competition, I'd be disappointed if there wasn't some spying happening.
Yep;all nations compete and we have many difference with china.Look at the different reactio we have to the protesters not long ago in china and now egypt altho china is reported to still be cracking down on many of the leaders. But we; like so often the case; are tied by this world economy together. Doesn't mean they are a partner in alliance such as Britain is tho.
I find it sad that their government works to make China MORE financially stable, more prosperous, and more viable in the world long-term (though no doubt their leaders are doing it for their own power, rather for the benefit of the citizens).
On the other hand, I see America's government at all levels in a race to grow as large/burdensome as possible, spend and borrow and print as much money as possible, and serve the militaristic nature of a huge empire. Instead of allowing Chinese businessmen to "job shadow" at the businesses using our most sensitive technologies with NO benefit to us (yes, personal experience), maybe we should be borrowing Chinese government officials and having them take charge until we are off the course to bankruptcy that our leaders are following so avidly.
