This boy has serious issue that these parents need to address. This boy has had numerous problems withint the past couple of months. He is showing signs of violent behavior, which is troubling to me. You don't all of a sudden change your personality. These parents are not paying attention.
If he is a special needs child, they need to have him evaluated immediately. Not always the child's fault, when they are special needs, soemtimes there are also other things going on, that only a medical physician can determine.
This young boy needs to be looked at by medical Dr's and these parents need to be paying better attention, to his behavior.
While I agree this does tend to point towards a problem at home, it could also point to a problem at school just as well.
I think this is likely the result of a ridiculous notion in this country that every child should receive a free public education.
As parents, we have got to realize what our kids are capable of and be responsible. It is not true that every kid can grow up and be a world class neurosurgeon, no more than they can grow up and be Michael Jordan.
People need to recognize their limitations and live within them.

Agree. He is in special ed, and has obvious behavior problems. Rather than arresting him, he needs a serious evaluation, an IEP if one is not already in place, and a better plan to deal with his disruptive behavior before it escalates to violence against others.
Of course he doesn't act out at home. There's a better than good chance that he's being neglected and/or abused at home, so he acts out at school.

No, it's a problem at home. After the first incident at school and arrest, if his parents were responsible parents, they would have gotten some counseling for their child's anger management problem. So either they're neglectful in that they didn't bother to get help for their child who is obviously crying out about something that's happening to him, or they're the ones doing that something to him. None of which has anything to do with "a free public education."

This. This child was hitting his teacher and begging to be arrested. Why would a child do that? Because they know that when people are arrested they're taken away from home and sent to live somewhere else. He's crying out for help and none of the adults in his life are helping him. Is there no school counselor? Is child services not called every time a child of that age is arrested? For crying out loud, why wouldn't the police call child services and tell them that there's something going on somewhere in this child's life and it needs to be investigated? And the teachers just have him arrested and wash their hands of him? It is so sad. I feel really bad for that child.
I'm afraid nothing will be done until this "child" kills someone.
Then we'll see the usual tears dripping out of the mothers eyes wailing "but he was a good child"
And the media saying there is something wrong, that the school didn't do anything to help the poor child.
And most people watching the media coverage saying to themselves:
WTF was wrong with the parents for not doing anything or blame the police for not taking action.

school behavioral specialist
WHAT????? The school behavioral specialist should have been a wooden paddle, not a person talking...
Why do we have so much socially unacceptable behavior?
Ohhh, I'm sure taking away the game console or cell phone will really alter the child's behavior..
