Finger pointing and credit stealing the favorite pass time of all partisan hacks. That will never change. I am just happy the trend has been good. The key point is trend, because one month figure doesn't mean much if the overall trend it bad.
Has the trend been anything really?
Looking at 2010 figures, unemployment didn't really move much at all.
Is it as disingenuous for extremist leftists to do the same in favor of Obama?
What? Take credit for the fact that UE rate has been falling for the last year or so - or that factory orders have been increasing for nearly 20 months - or that retail sales have been rising for a year or so now - or that consumer confidence has been on the rise for quite some time now? ALL of which happened long before the GOP made any gains in Congress. Is THAT what you are referring to?
OK let’s do the math here; a month ago we were seeing headlines saying the UE rate was 10%. Now after the addition of 192K jobs we are at 8.9%. By the way it takes the addition of 150K jobs per month to just break even, so the addition of 42K drops the UE rate 1.1%? Talk about "new math", or maybe the correct term is "new speak".
Probably the single biggest Republican effect was to force Obama to extend the tax structure. It sent a signal to business that there was a counter balance to Obama's clearly anti business bent.
I agree however, it was to late.
Most businesses will either go under or, wait Obama out.
Are you joking? I guess you're just a partisan shill, but I expected more out of you. By your logic, can you explain why the unemployment rate dropped to 9% before the Republicans did anything?
(and what have they done exactly? Brought styrofoam back to the Capitol and passed a bunch of show-boat bills that they knew had no prayer of getting beyond the House. Strong leadership...)
Unemployment has fallen by .9% since the tax cuts were extended in December.
False, unemployment was 9.7% last February, and actually increased through November where it climbed to 9.8%. Only after December when the tax cuts were extended did hiring pick up again. In fact, from June through November unemployment steadily rose.

A month ago the unemployment rate was at 9%, not 10%. We added 192,000 jobs this month. I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers.
I think it's disingenous for the extremist conservatives who post here to take credit for an economy that has been improving long before January.
You can just look at the thread about the Gallup poll that shows a jump to 10.3%. The same group is blaming Obama and the liberals.
It's just childish partisan hacking, and they hate being called out on it by those of us capable of thinking for ourselves.
The Economy was not improving before January and it's not improving now. The number of open positions is down 30% from pre-recession levels.
The deficit and debt continue to rise at a meteoric pace, while the value of our currency is plummeting. Look at how much the basic necessities of our daily lives (food and energy) are rising. This is going to lead to higher prices for clothes and almost everything we buy, as oil is vital to the Economy.
IL just floated some bonds to save a pension deficit at an interest rate HIGHER than corporate 'junk' bonds. The states are insolvent and the Federal Government is far worse. Obamacare has barely begun its implementation and the full (negative) effect of Dodd-Frank has yet to be seen as well.
I will agree with you that those who credit the GOP for this massive job creation are just drinking the GOP Kool-Aid, but the same can be said for those who credit Obama. If you evaluate honestly, the Obama admin is doing nothing to create jobs and all their policies destroy jobs. If there happen to be a few months of job creation in light of these destructive policies, that doesn't mean things are getting better.
AFAIK, there have not been any months of significant job creation (350,000+ private sector) to the extent we need to recover from this downturn. The person who said that UE is declining only b/c people are being artificially removed from the labor pool is right.

Well, in December 2008 we were losing 700 000 jobs per month, and that figure should take your breath away. Up until that point the situation was getting worse and worse every month. In March 2009 that trend reversed, and although we were still losing jobs, e lost less and less every month. And then we hit zero loss, and started adding jobs, and in January 2011 we added 140 000 and now 193 000. That is a trend, my friend, and it is a positive trend. Everyone should be happy about it, but of course if you have a partisan attitude, it is difficult to celebrate good news unless you can credit the good news to your own party.
What? Take credit for the fact that UE rate has been falling for the last year or so ?
